Does it have to be warm?
Drink warm or room temperature beverages first thing in the morning to avoid shocking your system.² Imagine waking up from your warm cozy bed and starting your morning with a cup of fresh lemon water. Sounds good, right?
Does it have to be in the morning?
Nope, I usually have a lemon wedge in my water at all times. I start my day with lemon water to kick start my digestive system. After hours of fasting overnight your body needs hydration.
Skin Benefits of Lemon Water ²
- Hydration
You’ve been asleep for hopefully 7-9 hours, and now you want to introduce a substance that your body needs to function. Water. But why not make it as nutritious and delicious as possible by including vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes via lemon.
- Detoxification
Hydration leads to detoxification. When the body is hydrated you are able to eliminate waste products. Lemon juice aids digestion by supporting digestive hydrochloric acid in the stomach.¹ Due to structural similarities, lemon juice deceives the liver into producing bile which further aids in the digestive process.² Drinking lemon water will by no means cleanse a person of their complete toxic burden, but it will nourish the liver, a major organ of detoxification.
- Antioxidants
Vitamin C provides antioxidant support to fight harmful free radical damage.¹ Free radicals are responsible for the visible signs of aging, like wrinkles.¹ Vitamin C enhances collagen production and reduces fine lines and wrinkles.²
- Enhances Immunity
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) has been widely studied for its role in maintaining a healthy immune system. Vitamin C has demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects that may reduce the severity and duration of respiratory infections, like the common cold.¹⸴² Consider drinking lemon water while you are healthy to prevent cold symptoms.²
