Botox and Acupuncture: Are they the Duo your Beauty Routine needs?

Botox

Paralyzes the local muscle, therefore, you are unable to move the muscle. If there is no muscle movement, wrinkles and soft lines will be masked for a short time. This is why it can be difficult to show emotion when given too high of a dose. When done tastefully, neurotoxins are great at treating 11 lines between the eyebrows, forehead lines, and crow’s feet.

Cosmetic Acupuncture

Cosmetic acupuncture works by creating microtraumas in the underlying treatment area which stimulates the body’s immune system to repair the area by bringing in nutrients and growth factors. Another way to understand this process would be the micro-tears that we create in muscles when we exercise. The body works to repair the tears by rebuilding a resilient and more defined muscle. During the healing process, the 2 most important rejuvenative factors collagen and elastin are produced.² These structural proteins assist in wrinkle repair and firming and toning of the skin.

Can I do both?

Absolutely! I am a huge supporter of neurotoxins like Botox and Xeomin. Neurotoxins are especially useful for those big events like weddings, galas, and birthdays. Results can be seen within a few days. If you are interested in both, Cosmetic Acupuncture should be done between Botox appointments. Doing so will help bring a dewy glow to the skin and it may reduce the number of units needed or prolong the time between Botox appointments, therefore you may be going in every 4-6 months instead of every 3 months. Moreover, Acupuncture addresses overall health and well-being. I love incorporating points for improving sleep, and decreasing anxiety and stress.
